A lower Fodmap diet is a diet that can help reduce the symptoms of IBS. Before we understand the lower Fodmap diet plan, we need to understand the high Fodmap diet. A high Fodmap diet plan is a diet that contains carbohydrates and it does not help in the normal function of the digestive system. And different types of symptoms like gas are brought to the fore inside the stomach.
Similarly, lower Fodmap diet contains carbohydrates but does not allow the bacteria in the gut to ferment as much as it does in high-fodmap food.
Below is a list of what is known as the high fodmap and which play an important role in bringing on the symptoms of IBS.
- Foods that contain gluten such as wheat
- Like pears, apple pears, watermelon etc.
- Dairy products like milk, curd, cheese etc.
- Vegetables include garlic, onion, eggplant, etc.
- Carbonated drinks etc.
- Sweet things include high fructose refined sugar and honey etc. STAYING SMOKE FREE (virginia.edu) The Low FODMAP diet (gloshospitals.nhs.uk)
